Camp FAQs

Thank you for your interest in Mad Science Camps! Here are the answers to some questions you may have:
How long has Mad Science been running camps?

Mad Science of London is a franchise of The Mad Science Group. Our programs are created by a team of professional scientists and teachers at our head office, in Montreal, QC. Millions of children in over 160 locations, in 22 countries have enjoyed our programs. Mad Science of London has been running full day camps since 2012.

What is the child to instructor ratio?

There will always be a minimum of 2 instructors per camp. Should camp enrolment exceed 25 children, we will have additional instructors to keep the ratio of children to instructors at 13 to 1 or less.

What ages are the camps designed for?

Most of our camps are designed for rising first graders to sixth graders. Our “Red Hot Robots” camp and “Rockin' Rockets!” camp are targeted to rising second graders to sixth graders. If you have a child who is entering kindergarten, some of our camps may be appropriate. Please call us for recommendations.

Are different aged children in the same camp?

Depending upon enrollment numbers, it is possible that the children will be divided into different age groups for the duration of the camp. However, this is generally not the case. All of our instructors are highly trained and skilled at ensuring all participants receive the science that is appropriate for their age level while ensuring the children are engaged and having fun.

Who are the Mad Science camp instructors?

Mad Science instructors are energetic, dynamic and well trained individuals who have undergone our extensive screening process and training sessions. All of our instructors are background checked by their local police services and have their vulnerable sector screening completed. They are also trained in safety, WHMIS and classroom management to ensure that your children will receive the best and safest possible experience from Mad Science.

Do you offer extended care?

Our camp programming runs from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Students can be dropped off between 8:30 and 9 am, and picked up between 4 and 4:30 pm. Extended dropoff/pickup (between 8 and 8:30 and between 4:30 and 5 pm) is available for an additional fee.

Please contact our office at (519) 472-8002 so arrangements can be made.

How do I register my child for a camp?

CLICK HERE to register online from this website. You can also register over the phone with a credit card.

How soon do I need to register to reserve a space for my child?

Some camps and dates fill very quickly, and we also offer early registration discounts. We recommend that you register as soon as possible.

What is your refund policy?

For all camp registrations (i.e. our online registration system, phone-in, paper), cancellations that are communicated 14 days or more before the camp start date will be given a full refund less a $10 administration fee. For cancellations after this, you will be charged for the first day of the camp and a $10 administration fee. Should your child attend the first day of camp and decide they no longer wish to attend, you will be given a pro-rated refund less a $10 administration fee. No refunds will be given after the 2nd day of camp.

If we do not get sufficient enrolment to hold the camp, Mad Science will make every effort to provide alternative camp locations, or you will be offered the option of a full refund.

Can I sign my child up for more than one camp?

You sure can! We have at least 2 camp topics each summer. Be aware that the content of the same camp topic will be the same regardless of when or where it is offered. (eg if you sign up for Rocket camp in week 1and Rocket camp in week 4, the content will be the same, but Rocket camp and STEM camp have different content)

Do you offer sibling or multi-camp discounts?

We have a 20% discount for 3rd and subsequent children. Use the coupon code '3rdchild' at registration.

My child has attended a Mad Science camp before. If he/she took a particular camp, will it be the same camp that he/she has taken before?

We run different camp topics every year. However, we do run the same topic at different locations throughout the summer. Your child will not be able to take the camp at different locations during the same year; however topics do vary from year to year so they can attend once a year, 4 years in a row without repeating.

My child has taken a Mad Science camp before, but I do not remember which one.

Call us and we will be happy to look it up for you.

Does Mad Science have a minimum enrolment requirement?

The minimum number of campers necessary to hold a camp is 12. Mad Science tries to inform parents as soon as possible should it appear that a camp will not reach its minimum enrolment. On these occasions, we will offer priority enrolment in other camps. Contact us for additional information on camp cancellations.

What should my child bring/wear to camp?

Mad Science provides all the equipment and materials for both the in-class activities and the take home projects. All you need to provide is a child who is ready to have fun! Children should dress comfortably for that day's weather. We ask that children not wear open toed shoes to a Mad Science camp, specifically no flip-flops. Also, as we will be outside on a number of occasions, please do not dress your child in any clothes that you do not want to get dirty. You may wish to apply sunscreen or insect repellent, or send these items with your child. A hat and/or sunglasses may also be useful.

Due to allergy concerns, Mad Science does not provide children with food. We ask that you send your child with a peanut-free lunch and snacks as well as sufficient water for the entire day. We also cannot guarantee that coolers or refrigeration will be accessible at our camp-sites, so please pack lunches appropriately.

Medical Information about your Camper

Prior to actual attendance at a Mad Science full-day summer camp, we require certain medical information from you regarding your camper. This is to assist the camp instructor with knowledge of specific considerations for your camper.

You must be aware that all summer-camp activities involve some risk, and, by registering for a camp, there is an assumption of risk made by the participant. Mad Science is dedicated to securing safe facilities for our camps and using personnel and equipment that is designed to be safe. However, Mad Science instructors are NOT trained in provision of medical services of any kind.

By enrolling your child in a Mad Science camp, you do agree to not hold Mad Science Group, its Franchisees, Agents, Representatives, Facilities, Employees, Managers, Contractors and Instructors liable for any medical emergencies or conditions your child may experience, related directly or indirectly to a camp.

Are these the only locations where you will be holding your camps this summer?

Maybe not. We are in discussion with many locations to provide our Mad Science camps. Please look at our website on a regular basis as we will be updating our schedule as soon as additional locations are added. Also, if you have a particular location in mind, please bring it to our attention.

Start your own Mad Science camp

If our schedule does not work with YOUR schedule then bring Mad Science to you! All you need is 12 children and a safe place to hold the camp!

We may even be able to adjust the start time, length of the day, number of days, or customize our programming to exactly match your needs.

Location needs for a Mad Science camp are:
  • Table/desk space and a chair for each camper
  • A table for the Mad Scientist's equipment
  • Access to electricity and water
  • The ability to darken the room
  • A nearby outside area (approximately 100 ft x 100 ft)

Mad Science provides everything else! Please contact us for more details.
